As we've been eating out for quite a while I suggested that we have some home-cooked food for a change. We trotted to Victoria market to get some fresh supplies and my girl whipped up a sumptuous meal for us ..........have to admit that her cooking skills are good but alas, no measurements, all done at her whims and fancies. This is pan grilled Teriyaki Salmon ..... the sauce was DIY!
Salmon Sashimi with wasabi ..... the fresh salmon was indeed very, very tasty and was just right with some wasabi.
Her signature deep fried Won Ton with chilli sauce dip. She folded up the dumplings like a gold ingot! Very meaningful for the New Year.
Medium well steak with grilled tomato.
Rounded up with a Salad ..... Grilled asparagus with mixed herbs, cup mushrooms, bacon and caramelised pecans. I like this, light and tasty.
After dinner we headed to St.Kilda to watch sunset. It was around 8pm and there was quite a crowd there, some with their cameras all set to record the event.
Just as the sun was about to set.
This was my first experience watching sun set (as we are used to having so much sunshine in Malaysia, we didn't really bother about this). I was amazed that it set real fast, in just a few minutes but luckily we were able to snap some pictures. We strolled to the pier side and spotted a crowd there....what's happening? Oh, to watch the penguins coming home to their burrows amongst the rocks and so we patiently waited and waited .....
No flash and no videos were allowed and therefore it was quite tough snapping them. The above showed a penguin waddling up the rocks to its 'home'.
This is the best that I could enhance from the pictures that I took. Can you see the penguin? It seemed quite oblivious to the people watching them .... perhaps they are used to having an audience! It was getting dark, around 9.00 pm and this was the time that they're expected to come home and call it a day.
Blimey! Check out this feast!! The sashimi with wasabi is my favourite. The salmon looks really good too! I love teriyaki. It all looks amazing! Though I like my steak rare with some good peppercorn sauce. How did your daughter's bread turn out by the way? Do show us sometime!
ReplyDeleteWow your girl is so talented to be able to cook such elaborate dishes. Must've got the talents from mommy. =)...you must be really proud.

What a spread! Home cooked food is still the best right?
ReplyDeleteLove this post! I hope my daughter cooks like that for me some day. I did spot the penguin. Have a blast Cheah!
ReplyDeleteYour girl is good in her cooking. St Kilda is beautiful at sunset but never get to go there at that time of the day again when the kid arrive... Can't wait for my kid to grow up :D
ReplyDeleteWow...like mother like daughter...she is a good cook ! Proud Mama :))
ReplyDeleteCan see you are having your best holiday..sunset at St.Kilda. Beautiful sunset.
What this the difference with '00' italy flour and our flour after making them into bread ?
Penny
ReplyDeleteYes home cooked is certainly much better.
Shirley
I'm sure that with your guidance your girl will inherit your cooking skills.
Zoe
Yup, once the kids come, then we mothers are housebound.

She is interested in cooking and also likes to eat. She told me that '00' flour from Italy can be used to bake bread and pizza. So I googled for more info. I only tried 300 gm of that flour, not too bad, the bread was soft. That day was quite chilly so took a longer time to prove. Had bought back 1 kg to try.
No measurements are the best! Measurements need to be more precise in baking but I love cooking Jamie Oliver style. :)

ReplyDeleteCooking is ok with no precise measurements but can't do that with baking ...... it'll be disastrous! Hope to see you more often!
