Chinese Churros aka 'Yau Char Kwai' and Kopi-O! This breakfast or snack has been in existence ever since I was little. Freshly fried churros dip into 2 in 1 Kopi-O is a perfect combination for a refreshing and hearty breakfast. It has to pair with kopi-O, which incidentally is coffee with sugar and Ipoh is famous for its coffee and white coffee. In case you are wondering, 'kopi' is the Malay word for coffee, and just 'kopi' without the 'O' is coffee with condense milk. So, there's a difference.
A sachet of 2 in 1 Kopi-O, add in 180 ml piping hot water, press the bag with a teaspoon and let it immerse for 2 mins, and then it's ready to be served.......mmm ...... sweet aroma of kopi-O!
Chinese Churros or 'Yau Char Kwai', 'Mah Kuek' literally meaning 'horse leg' in the shape of a horseshoe, 2 Harm Cheen Paeng, one topped with sesame and the other without.
The Harm Cheen Paeng with sesame has no filling in it while the other has some red bean paste filling.
Dunk it in, let it soak in the kopi-O for a second, and let your taste buds be the best judge of this wonderful, yet economical breakfast!
Mmmm ......................... Enjoy!
I like them with soya milk as a breakfast!

Yes, having the 'youtiao' with porridge and sweet red bean tong sui will be equally good. They're so versatile!

Yup, my son said it's 1 pound for the churros in Chinatown, sooo expensive! You'll get to savour them when you're back home soon. LOL!

Wah, eat them for dinner, but only once in a while, ok. Yes I like the 'mah kuek' as well.
I like to dunk my YCK into kopi-o too but it is really good dunking into curry gravy too. Do try it if you have a chance.

ReplyDeleteI like them esp. with the kopi-O but there's a stall within walking distance from my house, the lady makes and fries them, only 60 sen each, but then so oily, I usually squeeze out the oil with kitchen towel before eating them.
I love these too as is! Hmm...am I missing something...I don't take coffee?
